General Actions: improves spleen function; tonifies qi, regulates qi circulation, raises clear qi
Key Herbs: this expansion of Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Major Herbs Combination) adds huang qi to invigorate qi and raise clear qi; the pair of sheng ma and chai hu, when fried (chao), mainly raise qi. Chen pi replaces fu ling in the Si Jun Zi Tang portion, likewise clearing damp that impairs spleen function but also spreading qi; dang gui nourishes the liver to improve its circulation of qi. The focus is on rectifying qi disorders: tonifying, spreading, and raising.
Applications: general weakness, lack of drive (will power), low appetite for food as well as for pursuing new activities.
Dosing of granules: 4 grams twice per day; may be used long term when response indicates the value of consistent use.
Related Formulas: Shi Quan Da Bu Tang (Ginseng and Tang-kuei Ten Combination) is also for qi tonification, having the first five ingredients the same, but does not regulate qi circulation to the same extent as the current formula, but nourishes blood to a greater degree. [/p]
